The Russia-Ukraine war is far from over: Russia destroyed about a third of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in two days

Ukraine’s Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said that around 30% of energy infrastructure in Ukraine has been hit by Russian missiles since Monday, 10 October. The attacks have been confirmed by Russians too.

The minister asserted that Russia had “dramatically targeted” the energy infrastructure “for the first time since the start of the war.” The export of Ukrainian electricity to Europe, according to Halushchenko, “helps European countries save on Russian gas and coal.”

Ukraine is attempting to “immediately restore supplies from other sources,” he added.

While pointing out that Ukraine’s energy grid is “still stable,” the minister urged allies to give the country “air defence equipment that could genuinely help us secure our infrastructure.”

“We are sending the following message to our partners: we need to protect the sky. Russians are not playing some games with international laws. They don’t care about any kind of international agreements or conventions.”
